Brian McCormick, MD
Orthopedic Surgeon — Adult Reconstruction, Hip & Knee Arthroplasty
About
Dr. Brian McCormick brings a level of academic rigor and research depth that is rare in a surgeon just beginning his attending career — and he brings it home. A Washington, DC native who attended Gonzaga College High School before earning his B.S. in Biology from Loyola University Maryland magna cum laude on a Division I golf scholarship, Dr. McCormick completed his medical degree at Georgetown University School of Medicine and his orthopedic surgery residency at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore. He went on to complete a fellowship in Adult Reconstruction at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston — one of the country's most respected programs for hip and knee replacement surgery — before joining the team at Maryland Orthopedic Specialists.
A research record that shapes how he operates
Dr. McCormick has authored and co-authored more than 25 peer-reviewed publications, with work appearing in the Journal of Arthroplasty, Arthroplasty Today, Foot & Ankle International, and other leading orthopedic journals. His research has been recognized with top poster awards from the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS), and the European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (EFORT). He has presented his work at national and international meetings including the AAOS Annual Meeting, AAHKS, and the Orthopaedic Summit.
His research portfolio reflects the questions that matter most to joint replacement patients: how to reduce complications, how to optimize outcomes for patients with complex medical histories, and how newer technologies — including robotic-assisted surgery — perform in real-world practice. That evidence-based foundation informs every decision he makes in the operating room.
He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, and the AAHKS Young Arthroplasty Group, and has served as a Resident Representative on the Board of Directors of the Maryland Orthopaedic Association.
What colleagues say
"Brian is exactly the kind of surgeon we wanted to bring into this practice. I've watched him develop over the years, and what strikes me most isn't just his technical skill or his research — it's the way he approaches patients. He listens, he explains, and he genuinely cares about the outcome. That's not something you can teach. We're lucky to have him, and so are our patients."
— Dr. James Gardiner, MD, MOS Physician & Washingtonian Physician Hall of Fame
Dr. McCormick sees patients at our Bethesda and Germantown locations and is currently accepting new patients.
