Our team of skilled orthopedists at The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics: Maryland Orthopedic Specialists Division treat patients of all ages with any bone or soft tissue ailment. Our team of experts specialize in sports medicine, hand and upper extremity surgery, podiatry, joint replacement, and physical therapy. With over 40 years of combined experience, our orthopedic practitioners treat acute injuries such as fractures and ligament tears as well arthritis and other chronic problems. Patients can feel confident that they’re getting the latest in advanced care from our three, board-certified, fellow-ship trained sub-specialist surgeons.  We pride ourselves on expert care provided in a friendly, patient-focused environment.

Our physicians work closely with in-house physical therapists to employ modern rehab techniques. If a patient needs surgical intervention, the orthopedists use the most minimally invasive, joint-preserving techniques available. Because the team focuses on advanced pain management and rehab, patients can expect to return to work, school, and even sports activities rapidly, with minimal discomfort. The clinic’s specialized athletic trainers and physical therapists work to ensure that each patient regains motion and strength while minimizing their risk of re-injury.

Meet Dr. Christoforetti

JOHN CHRISTOFORETTI, MD, FAAOS

John J Christoforetti, MD FAAOS is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with over 15 years of experience treating hip, shoulder and knee injuries with arthroscopic surgery using evidence-based, patient-centered conservative and surgical methods.  His patients include active professional, collegiate, Olympic and high school athletes and adult and adolescent patients pursuing active-lifestyles.  A native of Pittsburgh, he completed undergraduate studies at the University of Notre Dame and medical school and orthopaedic surgery training at Georgetown University, where he served as Chief Resident in 2006.

He completed his fellowship training at the Steadman-Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas and began the practice of academic orthopedic surgery in Pittsburgh in 2007 where he actively trained over 40 residents and fellows.  In 2019 his contributions to the field and service to patients from around the world led to his recruitment to Dallas/Fort Worth where he joined the leadership team at Texas Health Sports Medicine.  In 2023 he returned to the mid-Atlantic to join the team of experts at the Maryland Orthopedic Specialists division of the Centers for Advanced Orthopedics.  His outside interests include spending time with family, boating, surfing, skiing, and travel.

Dr. Christoforetti’s unique research and leadership contributions to the field of orthopedics have been recognized by the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (Aircast Award for Clinical Science), the Arthroscopy Association of North America (Master Instructor, Steven Snyder Award for Education), the International Society for Hip Arthroscopy (Society President, 2024).  He is a founding of the MASH Studygroup and has authored over 40 original peer-reviewed publications.  He has been quoted in The Atlantic and delivered invited lectures in over 10 countries.

He is a member of the Professional Soccer Physician’s Society and served as the team physician for Major League Soccer (FC Dallas: 2019-2023), CONCACAF Gold Cup, SheBelieves Cup, and the FCS National Championship Football Game (’20-’23).  Past team physician roles include: Pittsburgh Pirates, MLB; Pittsburgh Riverhounds USL (2012-2019);  Washington Wild Things (’07-’08); Colorado Rockies (’06-’07).  He is an Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery for the Drexel University College of Medicine and past leadership roles include: Director: Center for Athlete’s Hip, Texas Health Sports Medicine (2019-2023), Director, Center for Athletic Hip Injury, Allegheny Health Network (2012-2019).
